How Your Health Data Is Processed

When you upload a medical report (such as a blood test or lab result), the following processing pipeline takes place:

Step 1: Upload & Storage

Your report file (image or PDF) is uploaded to Firebase Cloud Storage, a secure, encrypted file storage service provided by Google. The file is associated with your authenticated user account and is not accessible to other users (unless shared via the Family feature).

Step 2: Text Extraction (OCR)

Our system extracts text from your uploaded document using Optical Character Recognition (OCR). The extracted text is stored in your report record in Cloud Firestore.

Step 3: AI Analysis

The extracted text is sent to Google Gemini AI through a Firebase Cloud Function for analysis. Gemini processes the text and generates:

• AI Summary: A plain-language overview of the report's key findings.
• Health Tips: Personalized suggestions based on the report's content.
• FHIR Data: Structured health data in the HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) format, enabling standardized representation of health observations.

The analysis results are stored alongside your report in Cloud Firestore. The status progresses through: pending → processing → completed (or failed if an error occurs).

Step 4: Health Insights Generation

When you have multiple reports, our system aggregates the FHIR-structured data across all your reports and uses Gemini AI to generate comprehensive Health Insights, including:

• Overall Summary: A holistic view of your health based on all available data.
• Positive Findings: Areas where your health markers are in good standing.
• Concerning Findings: Areas that may need attention or follow-up.
• Health Trends: How specific parameters (e.g., hemoglobin, cholesterol) are changing over time — marked as Rising (↑), Falling (↓), or Stable (→), with statuses like Improving, Declining, Concerning, or Normal.
• Recommendations: Actionable suggestions for lifestyle or follow-up actions.

AI Chat (PeptiesAI) Data Usage

When you use PeptiesAI, our AI chat assistant:

• Your question is combined with context from your health reports and insights.
• This combined context is sent to Google Gemini AI to generate a response.
• Chat messages are used to provide real-time responses and are not permanently stored in our database.
• The AI assistant is designed to answer health-related questions based on your own data only.

PeptiesAI is not a doctor. Its responses are AI-generated interpretations and should be used for informational awareness only.

FHIR Data Standard

Pepties structures your health observations using the HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) standard. This is a widely adopted healthcare data format that represents medical observations in a standardized way.

This means your health data is structured to be potentially interoperable with other FHIR-compatible healthcare systems, though Pepties does not currently export or share FHIR data with external systems.

Data Retention & Deletion

• Reports: Stored until you delete them. You can delete individual reports from the App at any time.
• Health Insights: Regenerated based on existing reports. Deleting reports will affect your insights upon the next refresh.
• Account Deletion: You may request complete deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting admin@pepeties.in.

Limitations of AI-Generated Content

Please be aware of the following limitations:

• Accuracy: AI analysis is based on OCR-extracted text and may be affected by image quality, report format, or handwriting. Results may not always be accurate.
• Completeness: AI may not capture every data point from your report, especially from non-standard formats.
• Context: AI does not have access to your full medical history, current medications, allergies, or lifestyle factors beyond what is in your uploaded reports.
• Timeliness: Trends and insights are based only on reports you have uploaded. Missing reports may lead to incomplete trend analysis.
• Not a Diagnosis: No AI output from Pepties constitutes a medical diagnosis. AI-identified "concerning findings" are pattern observations, not clinical assessments.
